Following a court ruling denying workers demand to be paid for their work, the Trump administration has called back 50,000 previously-furloughed employees to work without pay, the Washington Post reports:
“The nearly 50,000 furloughed federal employees are being brought back to work without pay — part of a group of about 800,000 federal workers who are not receiving paychecks during the shutdown, which is affecting dozens of federal agencies large and small. A federal judge on Tuesday rejected a bid by unions representing air traffic controllers and other federal workers to force the government to pay them if they are required to work.”
With the courts on their side, how far will the administration go in calling back more workers without pay? The more workers who are doing their jobs without getting paid, the less the public will feel the effects of the shutdown. Perhaps a more important question is: how far will federal workers let this go?
